Cancer Community Support for Veterans & First Responders
Veteran led cancer support navigation
Veterans and first responders face unique health challenges, including increased risks of certain cancers due to exposures during military service, national disasters, lifestyle factors, and other service-related conditions.
Recognizing these distinct struggles, AFL partners with key organizations offering cancer community support strategies to help veterans and first responders and their families navigate the cancer journey, all within your community!
Types of Support Available
· Peer Support Groups: Let us connect you with fellow veterans and first responders who have faced similar diagnoses and give you the opportunity to foster support and comradery.
· Mental Health and Counseling: Navigating a cancer diagnosis can be emotionally taxing. Services such as counseling, therapy, and stress management are available through AFL, often led by veterans.
· Financial Assistance: You may qualify for financial help to cover treatment costs, transportation, housing, and daily living expenses. AFL can help you identify those resources and assist in reducing the financial burden of care.
· Caregiver Support: Cancer affects your family and friends who support you. AFL offers resources, education, and support groups for caregivers.
