How VA combines ratings (why 1 + 1 ≠ 2)
VA uses “whole person” math: if you’re 10% disabled, VA treats you as 90% efficient/healthy. The next rating applies to what’s left.
VA then rounds the combined value to the nearest 10%.
Bilateral factor: If you have compensable ratings affecting both sides of the same limb group (both arms or both legs), VA applies a small boost. This calculator applies that boost.
